DR. JULIA SZIKLAY

VICE PRESIDENT – INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS, NATIONAL AUTHORITY FOR DATA PROTECTION AND FREEDOM OF INFORMATION (NAIH)

Dr. Julia Sziklay earned her law degree in 1995, and in 1998 completed a second major in political science.  In 2012 she was awarded a Ph.D degree with the thesis: “The establishment, development and social effects of the informational rights”.

Since 1995 she has been working at the Hungarian supervisory body for data protection and for freedom of information at different positions.  In 2023 she was appointed as Vice President responsible for International Affairs and EU Cooperation of the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Hungary.

She is author, co-author, editor of about 50 publications related to privacy, health data, FOI and transparency, children’s online rights’ protection and the functions of the ombudsman.

She is also regular lecturer at university insitutions for legal studies.

She was project coordinator at numerous EU funded projects (e.g. the special comprehensive EU research project “Exploring local practices of freedom of information and increasing their effectiveness in Hungary, 2019-22) and at the ongoing project „Raising GDPR AWAREness for micro-enterprises, with specific attention paid to the beauty industry and private healthcare sector, 2025-26.
